Company | OLYMPUS |
Description | Olympus was founded in 1919 as K.K. Takachiho Seisakusho (Takachiho Works Co., Ltd). Originally a manufacturer of microscopes and thermometers, it sold its products under the Tokiwa brand name. In the early 1930's, it changed its name to Olympus and immersed into research and development of camera lenses. Unable to find clients for their lenses, the company later decided to make cameras around them and released their first model in 1936. Olympus introduced their first digital camera in 1996, the CAMEDIA C-800L,a compact, fixed lens digital camera with 1.3 MP resolution CCD, which was innovative at the time. http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/digitalcameras.html |
