Adobe saw that every camera manufacturer was releasing a different version of the RAW format and this is their attempt to made a standard format. Cameras using the Adobe DNG RAW format will save photographs with the information stored exactly how it was captured by the camera’s sensor, with no compression or color adjustment. Respected camera manufacturers such as Hasselblad, Leica, Casio, Ricoh, and Samsung have introduced cameras that provide direct DNG support (Click here for the full list of supported cameras). The quality of these images is fantastic, but frequently you will need to convert the Adobe DNG format, to a more common format like TIFF or JPEG.

Contenta Converter PREMIUM handles DNG files. This how-to article will show you how easy and pain free it is to convert DNG files with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the DNG photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Select your DNG photos to convert with Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” check box is checked and select the format. In this example we picked TIFF, but the drop down menu also gives you the choices for JPEG, EPS, PDF and more than a dozen other formats! You can also select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to TIFF will be stored.

Select which format to convert to using Contenta Converter Premium

All done!

Click start and soon you will see the final screen and you have your new TIFF files! Tip – We always suggest you save the original DNG files as these will have the best quality if you ever need to convert to other formats in the future.

Do you need to generate thumbnails for a web gallery ? You have many photos that need to be rescaled and optimize for the fastest possible loading on the Internet.

We will show you here how to generate thumbnails with ease thanks to Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select the photos

Click on the Add Photos button and select in your computer the photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Select the photos you wish to reduce

Step 2: Configure the conversion/rescaling job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” checkbox is checked and select JPEG as the format. Check the “Do reduce image size” checkbox and select “Thumbnail” in the “Profile” list. You can uncheck the checkbox “Preserve EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata” as we will not need metadata for these thumbnails. We did set the quality to 70% in order to compress the thumbnails a little bit more at low cost on the quality. The “Size preview” tells us that the whole set of images will be 664.1 kb large when the originals are 259.8 Mb.

Setup rescaling job

Step 4: Rename in batch

Show the “Rename” settings by clicking on its icon in the top bar. Check the “Do rename” checkbox and enter the pattern you wish to use for renaming. We will type “%name%_small.%ext%”. So that “_small” is appended to the file names of the originals. The preview shows you how the final filename will look like: “P1000875_small.jpg”, “P1000876_small.jpg”, …

Batch rename your thumbnails

Step 5: Create a sub-folder

Show the “Sub folder” settings by clicking on its icon in the top bar. Check the “Create subfolders” checkbox and enter the pattern you wish to use for the sub-folder. We will type “thumbs”. All generated thumbnails will be created in a sub-folder named “thumbs”.

Group them in a "thumbs" sub-folder

Step 6: Click Start!

Click the “Start!” button and the software will start immediately the conversion. The thumbnails will be stored in the thumbs sub-directory of the “Output directory”. Everything is ready for upload to your web server.

Click Start! and you're done. Ready for FTP!
