Do you need to rename many photos at a time ? You have many photos that need a meaningful name instead of the semi-numeric PXXXXXX names given by your digital camera. The use of EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata makes it even more powerful and elegant.

We will show you here how to give meaningful file names in batch to your photos thanks to Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select the photos

Click on the Add Photos button and select in your computer the photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Select photos for batch renaming

Step 2: Configure the renaming job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” checkbox is unchecked. We will not convert the photos to any other file format. The photos will remain untouched and we will just change the file names.

Show the “Rename” settings by clicking on its icon in the top bar. Check the “Do rename” checkbox and enter the pattern you wish to use for renaming. We will type a complex pattern “%cameramodel%-%y%-%m%-%d%_holiday_%counter%.%ext%”. The preview shows you how the final file names will look like: “DMC-FX3-2007-06-09_holiday_001.jpg”, “DMC-FX3-2007-06-10_holiday_002.jpg”, …

%cameramodel% is replaced by DMC-FX3 which is the model of the camera

%y%-%m%-%d% is replaced by the date of creation of the pictures as recorded by the camera

%counter% is replaced by the number of the photo in our selection. We chose to display 3 digits in the “Counter options”.

Configure the rename job

Step 3: Click Start!

Click the “Start!” button and the software will start immediately the renaming. The renamed photos will be stored in the “Output directory”. You can choose to open the folder at the end to move these photos elsewhere in your computer.

Click Start! and the renaming is done
