Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the .PNG photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” checkbox is checked and select the format. In this example we picked JPEG, but the drop down menu also gives you the choices for BMP, JPEG 2000, TIFF and more than a dozen other formats!  You can also select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to JPEG will be stored.

The file size preview in the lower left highlights how the JPEG file size is so much smaller than the PNG file.

The main limitation with JPEG is that it is a lossy format.  Every time a JPEG file is edited and saved some visual quality is lost in the process and cannot be restored.  Thus JPEG is not well suited to files that will undergo multiple edits.  Indeed, the JPEG format can not be used in astronomical or medical imaging where the exact reproduction of the data is required.
