Contenta Converter PREMIUM will convert photos and images from an amazing variety of formats. Along with these conversions, you can also add in some very useful processing features. Contenta Converter PREMIUM can create JPEG or JPEG2000 images of the exact quality you need using the JPEG quality slider. JPEG file size and quality are simple – the larger the file, the higher the quality and thus the smaller the file, the lower the quality. Often you want to minimize file size – but not reduce the quality so much as to make the image unclear.

This how-to article will show you how easy and pain free it is to perfectly balance file size and image quality in just a few simple steps using Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from the photo, or even photos, where you want the size adjusted. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Selecting your photo using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

In this case we select JPEG (JPEG2000 is the only other file format that supports this). We use the slider to select a quality of 21. But what does that really mean? Go up to the Upper left and select Image Preview.

Select JPEG file quality using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

You can see the original image on the left and the new image on the right. You can use the buttons to zoom in and out. We zoomed in quite close so you could see where the image starts to show the lower quality.

Image Preview using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

All done!

When you have all the settings the way you like them, you select Start. Soon you will have a successful file conversion and images that are the exact file size and quality to meet your needs!

The Portable Network Graphics (PNG) file format is a lossless format that is useful for saving photographs that require successive editing. With a lossless format you do not loss quality each time you edit the file. Then, after you do all the editing and the photograph is ready to be distributed, it is usually best to save it as a JPEG which has a much smaller file size.

This is where Contenta Converter PREMIUM can be a huge assist. Using Contenta Converter PREMIUM you can load a PNG file and convert it to formats like JPEG. I will demonstrate the quick and easy way to do this with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the .PNG photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” checkbox is checked and select the format. In this example we picked JPEG, but the drop down menu also gives you the choices for BMP, JPEG 2000, TIFF and more than a dozen other formats! You can also select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to JPEG will be stored.

The file size preview in the lower left highlights how the JPEG file size is so much smaller than the PNG file.

Select which format to convert to using Contenta Converter Premium

Click start and soon you will see the final screen and you will have your new JPEG file – which is 4% the size of the original PNG file!

The popular JPEG format dates back to 1986 when it was designed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. The format is popular for two main reasons. First, the files can be compressed which makes it ideal for web usage, where the bandwidth used by an image is important. Second, almost all digital cameras can create images in the JPEG format.

The main limitation with JPEG is that it is a lossy format. Every time a JPEG file is edited and saved some visual quality is lost in the process and cannot be restored. Thus JPEG is not well suited to files that will undergo multiple edits. Indeed, the JPEG format can not be used in astronomical or medical imaging where the exact reproduction of the data is required.

If you need to edit a JPEG file, you should save it to a lossless format such as PNG, make the edits, and then create a JPEG for distribution. This is where Contenta Converter PREMIUM can be a huge assist. Using Contenta Converter PREMIUM you can load a JPEG file and convert it to formats like PNG.

While many digital cameras create files in the RAW format, most of them save their files with unique formats and names. However several brands, like Panasonic and Leica, use the RAW extension. Contenta Converter PREMIUM currently supports pictures taken with the Leica Digilux 2, Leica D-LUX2, Panasonic DMC-FZ8, Panasonic DMC-FZ30, Panasonic DMC-L1 and many more models (Click here for the full list of supported cameras). The quality of these images is fantastic, but frequently you will need to convert the RAW format, to a more common format like BMP or JPEG.

I will demonstrate the quick and easy way to do this with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the .RAW photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Selecting RAW files for conversion with Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” check box is checked and select the format. In this example we picked JPEG, but the drop down menu also gives you the choices for PNG, JPEG 2000, EPS and more than a dozen other formats! You can also select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to JPEG will be stored. Note the huge file size difference between RAW and JPEG.

Selecting conversion options with Contenta Converter PREMIUM
