The main limitation with JPEG 2000 is that it is a lossy format.  Every time a JPEG 2000 file is edited and saved some visual quality is lost in the process and cannot be restored.  Thus JPEG 2000 is not well suited to files that will undergo multiple edits.  Indeed, the JPEG 2000 format can not be used in astronomical or medical imaging where the exact reproduction of the data is required.

If you need to edit a JPEG 2000 file, you should save it to a lossless format such as PNG, make the edits, and then create a JPEG 2000 for distribution. In this case we select JPEG (JPEG2000 is the only other file format that supports this).  We use the slider to select a quality of 21.  But what does that really mean?  Go up to the Upper left and select Image Preview.

You can see the original image on the left and the new image on the right.  You can use the buttons to zoom in and out.  We zoomed in quite close so you could see where the image starts to show the lower quality.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the files you wish to convert. To highlight how renaming works, we are going to pick a bunch of files. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Pick convert, we selected JPEG, and any other features you want and then choose SUB FOLDERS.  Here you can see the default naming where “%y%” represents the year the file was created.

Once you click on CREATE SUBFOLDERS you will see several boxes become editable and in this example we have chosen to rename the sub folders by extension “%ext%” which means that all the files we convert will be stored in a \DNG, \PEF, \RAW folder since their are the extensions of our original photos.

This how-to article will show you how easy and pain free it is to create an Adobe PDF album.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the photos you want to add to this album.  You’ll see that in this example we picked multiple formats – CR2, MOS and CRW.  Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Choose PDF album and you will have a great range of options.  The default format is PDF, but you can also choose Postscript if needed.  The layout, highlighted in blue, allows you to pick page orientation, resolution, page size, number of photos per page and even the spacing between the photos.  Hit Start to continue.

Step 3 – Name your file

Click start and you will be prompted to select a location and name for the album file.  Hit Save to continue.

Your album will be created at a fraction the size of the original 8 photos.  Ideal for somebody who needs to preview the photos – but has no need to have the actual HUGE image files.

Here we start to show you how you can adjust the name.  You can see all the tags that are available – creation hour, creation day, Exposure time, Camera model and many more.  Note that not all files have this data.  In this example we have added “%cameramodel% to the name but none of the files have this data.

In this next example we added a counter using  “%counter%” and you can see how the file name changes.

In this example we just add some text at the beginning of each file name.

Here we use the tags to include Creation month, Creation date and creation year in front of the file name.

Once you get the naming setup – you just hit START and the conversion process completes as it always does.  The only difference is you have customized exactly how the converted files will be named.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from the color photo you wish to convert to black and white.  Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

In this case we are going to convert to JPEG at the same time.  But you could even keep the file in the same format and just execute the color change. We select the last option on the top menu, Effects.  Then choose Add Effects, Color Processing and finally Black and White.

Next you will see Black and White effect added to the list and, more importantly, the color of the photo now reflects just black and white.  Next you select Start.
