If you want to work with PS, EPS or PDF files you will need to install the Ghostscript software. This will only need to be done one time. The following screens will quickly walk you through this process so you can begin to use these vector files with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Open up Contenta Converter PREMIUM and use the Add Photos button to attempt to open up an EPS, PS or PDF file.

If the file opens up and displays, then you already have the Ghostscript software installed and you do not need to follow any of these steps. However, if you see the following screen than you will need to do this one time install of the Ghostscript software.

Ghostscript Software Installation Required

Click on the link http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ and you will be taken to this page in your browser (your display for the next few screens may vary slightly based on which Internet Browser software you are using). Select the top entry for the latest release of the Ghostscript software. In this example it is version 8.63.

Home Page for GhostScript software

You will see this next screen and you can select the site to use for downloading. We suggest Sourceforge as the most robust site to use – though all sites will have the exact same software.

Select a software download site

If you select Sourceforge you will see this screen – the other sites will have similar screens to review. If you have software to work with .gz or .bz2 compressed files than you may select that. We selected the gs863s32.exe since that file will open and run on most PCs. You will need to save this file to your PC.

Select a version of the GhostScript software

Once the file is download, double click on the file to start the installation program. You will see a screen similar to this and you should select RUN.

Accept the Ghostscript download

The next screen will be similar to this and you should select SETUP.

Ghsotscript Software Setup

On this screen you will need to select the directory to install the Ghostscript software into. Be sure to jot down this location as you will need to know it later on.

Select where to install the Ghostscript Software

You will see some installation screens scroll by and then a Windows Explorer screen (again dependent on your version and setup) that is similar to this will display and you know the installation is complete!

Ghostscript Software Installed

Now you can return to the Contenta Converter PREMIUM screen and enter in the location of the Ghostscript software and select Ok.

Ghostscript Software Installation Required

You will see this confirmation screen and the process is done! You can now use Contenta Converter PREMIUM with PS, EPS and PDF files. Remember this was just a one-time process.

title

Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) is a standard file format for importing and exporting PostScript files. It is usually a single page PostScript program that describes an illustration or an entire page. The purpose of an EPS file is to be included in other pages. EPS is rapidly becoming outdated and replaced by PDF – but there are many existing programs that still use the EPS format.

EPS files, because of their size, are less than ideal for web display and this is where Contenta Converter PREMIUM can be a huge assist. Using Contenta Converter PREMIUM you can load a EPS file and convert it to formats like JPG, GIF, PNG, WBMP, PPM, PGM, PBM, XPM and ICO. I will demonstrate the quick and easy way to do this with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the .EPS photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

If you get a message about Configuring Ghostscript than you will need to complete a one-time setup and instructions can be found here. After completing that install, you can return here to complete your conversion.

Selecting EPS files for conversion with Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” check box is checked and select the format. In this example we picked JPEG, but the drop down menu also gives you more than a dozen other formats! You can also select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to JPEG will be stored.

Select which format to convert to using Contenta Converter Premium

All done!

Click start and soon you will see the final screen and you will have your new .JPG file that is much smaller than the original .EPS file.

File conversion success!

Do you ever need to convert a raster image file such as JPEG, TIFF, GIF, PNG, … to EPS ? That can be necessary in several circumptances, for example, when in need to import a figure into a LateX document or when dealing directly with the Postscript format.

We will show you here how to perform such an operation with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos

Click on the Add Photos button and select in your computer the photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Make sure the “Do convert to format” checkbox is checked and select EPS as the format. You can select a different output folder if you want to. This is the location where the files converted to EPS will be stored.

Setup the conversion settings

Optional:

You can choose to wrap the images as JPEG inside the EPS container. It makes the files a lot smaller as you can see in the size preview. The files are reduced to 328kb when they were 6.6Mb large previously.

Wrap as JPEG in the EPS container

Click Start!

The conversion job will start and will soon be finished.
