JPEG 2000, or JP2, is a variation of the more popular JPEG format. The JPEG 2000 has the same benefits and issues as JPEG with the primary difference being that if a file is highly compressed – a JP2 file will retain more quality than a JPG file.

The main limitation with JPEG 2000 is that it is a lossy format. Every time a JPEG 2000 file is edited and saved some visual quality is lost in the process and cannot be restored. Thus JPEG 2000 is not well suited to files that will undergo multiple edits. Indeed, the JPEG 2000 format can not be used in astronomical or medical imaging where the exact reproduction of the data is required.

If you need to edit a JPEG 2000 file, you should save it to a lossless format such as PNG, make the edits, and then create a JPEG 2000 for distribution. This is where Contenta Converter PREMIUM can be a huge assist. Using Contenta Converter PREMIUM you can load a JP2 file and convert it to formats like PNG. I will demonstrate the quick and easy way to do this with Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from your computer the .JP2 photos you wish to convert. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Selecting JPEG 2000 files for conversion with Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Contenta Converter PREMIUM will convert photos and images from an amazing variety of formats. Along with these conversions, you can also add in some very useful processing features. Contenta Converter PREMIUM can create JPEG or JPEG2000 images of the exact quality you need using the JPEG quality slider. JPEG file size and quality are simple – the larger the file, the higher the quality and thus the smaller the file, the lower the quality. Often you want to minimize file size – but not reduce the quality so much as to make the image unclear.

This how-to article will show you how easy and pain free it is to perfectly balance file size and image quality in just a few simple steps using Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 1: Select your photos.

Click on the Add Photos button and select from the photo, or even photos, where you want the size adjusted. Then click the ‘Next’ button.

Selecting your photo using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

In this case we select JPEG (JPEG2000 is the only other file format that supports this). We use the slider to select a quality of 21. But what does that really mean? Go up to the Upper left and select Image Preview.

Select JPEG file quality using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

You can see the original image on the left and the new image on the right. You can use the buttons to zoom in and out. We zoomed in quite close so you could see where the image starts to show the lower quality.

Image Preview using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

All done!

When you have all the settings the way you like them, you select Start. Soon you will have a successful file conversion and images that are the exact file size and quality to meet your needs!

This how-to article will show you how easy and pain free it is to organize your new files as you convert them using Contenta Converter PREMIUM.

Step 2: Configure the conversion job

Pick convert and any other features you want AND then choose RENAME. Here you can see the default naming where “%name%” represents the file name, “.” represents the dot and “%ext%” represents the file extension.

Select Renaming Options using Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Here we start to show you how you can adjust the name. You can see all the tags that are available – creation hour, creation day, Exposure time, Camera model and many more. Note that not all files have this data. In this example we have added “%cameramodel% to the name but none of the files have this data.

File Renaming Options in Contenta Converter PREMIUM

Once you get the naming setup – you just hit START and the conversion process completes as it always does. The only difference is you have customized exactly how the converted files will be named.
